Here is a closer look, with answers included, into the great questions from our digital audience from the 2023 Canopy Summit. 

 

Q: When we do folder templates, clients can't see this. How can we make sure they can see things in it, especially for the next year.

A: Right now there must be a file that is marked visible to the client in the folder that you want to be visible to the client. We understand that not being able to see empty folders in the client portal is a frequent ask of our customers.

 

Q: Are you working on app crashes & functionality?

A: Always. This is extremely important to us. A large portion of our R&D time is spent fixing bugs and supporting uptime and reliability.

 

Q: I was attempting to have new clients fill out a questionnaire to let us know more about them, but there are not text boxes for them to fill in. How do we do this so we can get our potential clients info?

A: Currently, we allow you to send fillable forms to your clients to get information filled out. We also have had several requests for a customizable organizer/questionnaire and we plan to start looking into solutions soon.

 

Q: Can we edit tasks in bulk? Since we can create them in bulk, can we also edit them? This would save on time, especially if there is an error.

A: Currently, no, but I will pass this on to our Product Manager.

 

Q: Can we have clients see folder structure templates so as they are uploading documents, they can remember what to "turn in" and it helps with organization.

A: Clients can see all folders in which they have a file visible to the client. We will continue to work on ways to help with file organization!

 

Q: Do you have any planned enhancements to work flow?

A: Always. Enhancements are on our roadmap for each of our products. If you have specific enhancement requests, you can provide that in our user feedback tool or through support.

 

Q: Does canopy have training documents or best practices for accounting firm workflow? From attaining prospects, to sending proposals, to signing engagement letters, and actively managing them. I'm always looking for new ways to increase efficiency in my process!

A: I'm excited to say that we are working on this now and will be publishing things in 2024.

 

Q: Our biggest reluctance to move 100% to Canopy is that there is no way to have texts sent to clients. With Monday, when we change status, a text is sent to the client.  This has been incredibly efficient event hough Monday is not the best task management software for our practice

A: Thank you for this feedback. I will pass this on to our Product Manager. We have done some research here, but we also want to make sure to create something that is secure. Though it is likely that we will be able to do something with SMS for reminders.

 

Q: My current software does not do a good job with tracking net  revenue by staff.  What kind of reports are available for this

A: We have a default 'Revenue by Team' member report to help track this. Additionally with our insights feature, firms have more flexibility on how they would like to see this reported.

 

Q: Do the late notices and statements go out automatically?

A: Yes, within billing settings you can set automated rules for when invoice reminders and late fees get assessed. The email notifications are then automatically sent.

 

Q: Why can't we use our own payment authorization site?

A: We believe that our integrated partnership with Adyen provides the best experience for firms and their clients. It allows us to provide competitively, low prices as well as make it easy to manage all of your payments within one system. For clients, it makes it easy to view payment details and process payments within a secure client portal.

 

Q: The requirement  for ID.me login when requesting transcripts interrupts the link between eServices and Canopy, the Request button in Canopy just takes me to IRS login and does not connect my request to the client screen. What needs to be done in Canopy to cope with this external login process?

A: Sadly, there isn't much we can do here. This is a requirement from the IRS.

 

Q: Some of our clients are not getting the email with the code when trying to sign in. Is that an issue that will be resolved soon?

A: Hello! Thank you for sharing this issue with us. We are aware of this and will continue to research. The best way currently for clients to receive these emails is to check spam and mark them as "not spam". We will continue researching a fix for this. We appreciate your feedback!  I was able to chat with my development team and they suggested looking at setting up the option for SMS 2FA so that clients don't need to use email to login.

 

Q: I'd like to be able to merge business clients and individual clients. Is there a way to do this or is it being researched currently?

A: Hello! We are currently researching the ability to merge clients. Thank you for expressing your need for this!
