After a year of canceled, postponed, and virtual events, several big accounting trade shows and conferences are coming back in-person this summer. Some events are still virtual-only but others are offering both remote and virtual options. Attending accounting events is a great way to network with others in your industry, learn how to grow your practice, and discover new workflows. Plus, it's a chance to earn CPE credits.
Here’s a look at some accounting events you should know about this year.
IRS Tax Forum: The IRS Tax Forum remains virtual this year and starts on July 20. The conference runs through August 19 and will be made up of 30 live-streamed webinars on a range of topics including cybersecurity, employee retention and tax law changes. Find the webinar schedule here. You can earn CPE credits at the event as well.
2021 American Accounting Association Annual Meeting: The American Accounting Association will hold its annual meeting virtually this year and include speakers who will discuss several important topics including leadership and diversity, how to become thought leaders in the industry and the importance of critical thinking in accounting curriculum.
AICPA Engage: The American Institute of CPAs is holding a conference for accounting and finance professionals. The three-day event will include talks from speakers on a variety of topics, including how to stay connected with clients through the cloud and a workshop on building up your tax and accounting practice.
ICPAS Summit 21: The Illinois CPA Society is holding an educational event that will feature speakers discussing technology solutions for your practice. The conference also provides several opportunities to earn CPE credits.
Deeper Weekend Event: Thriveal’s 10th annual Deeper Weekend conference will introduce you to new ideas and resources for your accounting firm. The event will feature well-known speaker Jason Blumer, CPA and thought leader in the industry.
Woodard Scaling New Heights: Woodard is holding a conference aimed at connecting you with other accounting professionals. The four-day event will feature educational sessions and trainings on topics relevant to the industry.
AICPA Women’s Global Leadership Summit: The American Institute of CPAs is holding its women global leadership summit in person this year and will focus on helping women succeed in the accounting and finance industry. The educational event will cover topics like how to recruit women to your firm, how to achieve a work/life balance and more.
FICPA CPA Summit: The Florida Institute of CPAs Summit will give accounting professionals relevant insight into the field and cover important topics, like how to avoid common pitfalls at your accounting firm and go over accounting basics for cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. The event also provides several opportunities to earn CPE credits. The summit officially starts Nov. 9, but there is a pre-conference ethics lab offered the day before in Florida.
Planning on attending any of these shows? Going to events is a great way to stay up-to-date on everything in the industry and make sure you are educated on current best practices.

Canopy takes the headaches out of client management by offering a way to keep client info organized.
I love how easy it is to setup a new client in this software. Once set up, it's one click to get IRS transcripts downloaded for my review. This saves me at least an hour each week in comparison to the software I used to use.
This makes workflow for tax resolution manageable. This business is a bunch of hurry up and wait. This system helps to refresh my memory while transitioning to different clients.
The ability to securely share documents with clients as well as complete POAs from client contact data already in Canopy. The ability to route workflow between team members with color coded statuses allows us to work efficiently.
Cool features, outstanding customer service, constantly updating to make it better. I love that I can upload files easily to a secure client portal and we don't have to email files anymore. Absolutely can't imagine not having this software.
It's safe and secure. Clients are able to upload documents and the documents are saved their portal which as a result, keeps us better organized. The task feature keeps us organized and we know exactly the status of each client.
